Employers faced with the cost of removing asbestos should be aware that enhanced tax relief is available for cleaning up land acquired in a contaminated state. Land includes buildings for this purpose, and so the costs of removing asbestos from buildings are eligible for this enhanced tax relief.
 Tax relief of £150 can be claimed for each £100 spent on cleanup costs, which can considerably reduce the costs of removing asbestos. Companies not able to benefit from the tax relief due to losses can also claim a tax repayment from the Inland revenue.
